India reports three deaths, 841 fresh cases in a day

India has logged 841 new cases of COVID-19, the highest in 227 days, while the number of active cases of the infection was recorded at 4,309, the health ministry said on Sunday.
Three new deaths due to Covid– one each from Kerala, Karnataka and Bihar — have been reported in 24 hours, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.
The number of daily cases had dropped to double-digits till December 5, but cases have again gone up after emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions.
The daily numbers were in lakhs at the peak of the pandemic, which began in early 2020 and has seen more than 4.5 crore people getting infected and over 5.3 lakh deaths in about four years since then across the country.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease stands at over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent, according to the ministry’s website. According to the website, 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have so far been administered in the country. Health officials in Odisha confirmed five new Covid-19 cases within the last 24 hours, bringing the total reported cases in the state this month to 19. Currently, there are 18 active cases, with one patient recovering. The Odisha government had previously instructed government-run medical colleges and district medical officers to enhance surveillance, testing, and preparedness for a potential virus surge.
Despite concerns about a Covid-19 resurgence, the hospitality industry is capitalizing on New Year festivities. The festive spirit has led to increased dining out and bookings in resort destinations, with some players reporting a 19% growth in year-end revenue compared to the same period last year.
Following a drop in daily cases to double digits until December 5, there has been an increase, attributed to a new variant and cold weather conditions.
Maharashtra reported 172 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, marking a rising trend in infections.
