As tensions heat up in the Middle East, the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued a new advisory on Wednesday asking Indian citizens to reconsider traveling to Tehran for any non-essential purposes. The advisory is in light of growing regional instability due to military clashes among Iran, Israel, and the US.
Embassy advises cautionĀ
In a release posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy said, “Given the security-related developments over the recent weeks, Indian nationals are urged to exercise caution and carefully weigh the changing situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran.”
The embassy also instructed those already present in Iran to exercise caution and stay abreast of the situation. “They are also instructed to watch local news very carefully and observe updated instructions issued by Indian authorities. Indian nationals already in Iran who seek to depart can make use of available commercial flight and ferry services,” the release stated.
Growing Middle East Tensions Trigger Advisory
The advice comes on the heels of heightened tensions in the Middle East in recent weeks. Military tensions were escalated after a string of attacks and counterattacks between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Israel in last month commenced “Operation Rising Lion,” targeting Iran‘s nuclear and military installations. The operation was said to be intended to stop Iran from making further advances toward the development of atomic weapons. Iran responded by striking missile and drone attacks at Israeli targets.
US Enters War with Airstrikes against Iranian Nuclear Facilities
In a significant development on June 22, the United States entered the conflict by carrying out airstrikes on some of the most important Iranian nuclear installations. Code-named “Operation Midnight Hammer”, the operation used B-2 stealth bombers and bunker-busting bombs to target high-value targets in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.

India Advises Departure Options to Citizens in Iran
In view of the unfolding crisis, the Indian government has provided suggestions for those already there. The embassy reiterated that “Indian nationals already in Iran who desire to depart may utilize commercial flight and ferry services currently available.”
