Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday received a phone call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Both leaders discussed new ways to deepen their strategic partnership and stressed that they follow a strict zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.

According to an official statement, Modi and Netanyahu said they were satisfied with the continuing progress in the India-Israel Strategic Partnership. They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation for the benefit of both nations.

India Reaffirms Support for Middle East Peace Process

During the call, Modi reiterated India’s support for a “just and durable peace” in the Middle East. He also emphasised the need for the early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan. Both leaders condemned terrorism and said they maintain a “zero-tolerance” approach to terror in every form. They agreed to stay in contact as developments unfold.

Netanyahu Says Next Ceasefire Phase Could Begin Soon

The conversation happened shortly after Netanyahu said he expected the second phase of the US-backed Gaza ceasefire plan to begin “very shortly”. However, Hamas rejected that timeline, claiming that Israeli “violations” were continuing. It urged mediators to pressure Israel to follow the terms of the agreement.

Netanyahu’s India Visit Still Being Rescheduled

Netanyahu’s office earlier confirmed that it is coordinating with Indian officials to finalise a new date for his postponed visit. The trip was originally planned for December but was delayed without any public explanation.

Despite the postponement, Netanyahu’s office said the relationship with India remains strong. It stated that the Israeli Prime Minister has “full confidence” in India’s security under Modi’s leadership. In a post on X, it said, “Israel’s bond with India and between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister @narendramodi is very strong. The PM has full confidence in India’s security under PM Modi, and teams are already coordinating a new visit date.”

Media Reports on Security Concerns Dismissed

Some media reports had suggested that the visit was delayed because of “security concerns” after a deadly terror attack in New Delhi two weeks ago that killed at least 15 people and injured many more.
But sources told that these claims were “misleading and factually incorrect”. They also urged the public to avoid linking the visit postponement with the attack.
