India strongly condemned Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council on October 24. The Indian delegation highlighted “grave human rights violations” in areas “illegally occupied” by Pakistan. India also said democracy is an “alien concept” for Pakistan.

Jammu and Kashmir: Integral Part of India

Speaking at the UNSC’s open debate on ‘The United Nations Organisation: Looking into the Future,’ India’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, stressed that Jammu and Kashmir is an “integral and inalienable part of India.”

He added, “We know that these are concepts alien to Pakistan. We call upon Pakistan to end the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.”

Harish reiterated that people of Jammu and Kashmir exercise their fundamental rights in line with India’s democratic traditions and constitutional framework.

India Advocates Global Justice and Cooperation

The Indian envoy emphasized India’s civilisational ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning “the world is one family.” He urged UN member states to make the organization more effective for a new era.

“We see the world as one family, a vision enshrined in our civilisational ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. This is not only an outlook that anchors our worldview, but also the reason why India has consistently advocated for justice, dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all societies and peoples. It is also the reason why India places its faith in multilateralism, international partnerships and cooperation,” Harish said.

India Supports the Global South

Harish highlighted India’s continued support for countries in the Global South. He said, “India has always stood with our brothers and sisters from the Global South and will continue to help with our expertise and long-standing experience across all domains.

I urge all member states to come together and join hands towards realising this vision for making the UN fit for purpose for the new era.”

India Positions Itself as a Global Advocate

India’s strong stance at the UNSC reflects its evolving role as a global advocate for human rights, multilateral cooperation, and justice. By highlighting Pakistan’s violations and promoting international collaboration, India is positioning itself as a responsible leader on the world stage, aiming to influence global norms and strengthen democratic principles worldwide.
