India celebrates 2 Years of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor

Kashi Vishwanath Corridor was officially opened by Prime Minister Modi on December 13, 2021, which was 24 months ago. With great enthusiasm, the country is commemorating this wonderful milestone. Celebrating the exquisite symphony of two years, India is able to enjoy the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, an artwork that rises beyond bricks and echoes the revival of India’s cultural grandeur. A magnificent blend of civilization where tradition and modernity mix, it is a poetic revival of India’s cultural essence.

The Prime Minister had inaugurated Phase 1 of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Project in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi on December 13, 2021 in which 23 buildings – tourist facilitation centre, Vedic Kendra, Mumukshu Bhavan, Bhogshala, city museum, viewing gallery, and food court among others— had been inaugurated as part of the project.

It has accomplished the following for Kashi:

• Since then, more than 13 crore pilgrims have visited the Dham; in contrast, only 69 lakhs did so in 2019. The tourist industry alone has created 34% additional job opportunities.-
• The tourist industry reported a 65% increase in revenues for its employees.
• The temple’s space has expanded from 3000 square feet to nearly 5 lakh square feet.
• Rediscovered and repaired are more than forty ancient temples.

About Kashi Vishwanath Corridor:

• This extensive renovation is the first since the Kashi Vishwanath temple and its environs were restored in 1780 AD by the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
• In March of 2019, the groundwork was established. The project was designed to provide pilgrims with an easy-to-access route so they wouldn’t have to wander through crowded streets in order to dip in the Ganga and offer the sacred river’s water at the temple.
• Over 40 historic temples were rediscovered while the project was being worked on. They were restored with care to ensure that the original structure remains intact.

Significance:

• It links the Ganga ghats and the well-known Kashi Vishwanath temple.
• A well-known Hindu temple honouring Lord Shiva is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
• Situated on the Ganga’s western bank, the temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest Shiva shrines.
• By offering pilgrims and travellers amenities like cleaner, broader streets, brighter street lights, and pure drinking water, it would contribute to a rise in tourism.
