Kathmandu [Nepal], March 1 (ANI): A concrete bridge built under India’s assistance through the Nepal-India Development Cooperation was inaugurated on Saturday in Birgunj, Bara district. The project falls under the community development initiative to enhance connectivity in Nepal.

The bridge, constructed over the Bangari River on the Bhaluhi-Bharwalia-8 road, was jointly inaugurated by India’s Consulate General in Veerganj, Devi Sahay Meena, and Superintendent Engineer Shubharaj Neupane from Nepal’s Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Kathmandu.

Boosting Connectivity and Economic Growth

The newly built bridge provides easier access for traffic and improves local livelihoods. Speaking at the inauguration, Consul General Meena emphasized the bridge’s significance for the local community:

“This bridge has been constructed keeping in mind the needs of the people. It will improve access and create new livelihood opportunities.”

Superintendent Engineer Neupane highlighted the bridge’s role in driving economic and social activities, stating that:
“With no bridge before, transportation was difficult. This new infrastructure will enhance mobility and improve the daily lives of people.”

  • Location: Bhaluhi-Bharwalia-8, Birgunj, Nepal
  • Total Cost: NRs 1.96 crore, funded by the Government of India
  • Impact: Connects Bhaluhi-Bharwalia, Pheta, and nearby villages with the Birgunj metropolis
  • Purpose: Enhancing trade, transportation, and overall development

India-Nepal Development Cooperation

Since 2003, India has undertaken 563 high-impact community development projects across Nepal’s seven provinces in key areas like:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Water supply
  • Connectivity
  • Sanitation

Under the Consulate General of India, Birgunj, India has approved 74 programs, completing 56 projects so far. India has also donated:

  • 97 ambulances to healthcare institutions
  • 38 school buses to educational facilities

Strengthening India-Nepal Ties

Consul General Devi Sahay Meena highlighted the multi-dimensional India-Nepal partnership, stating that such projects strengthen people-to-people ties and prioritize infrastructure development in Nepal.
