
Independence Day 2025 Red Fort celebrations witness PM Modi hoisting flag, IAF Mi-17 choppers and patriotic events
India celebrated its 79th Independence Day in 2025 with great excitement and pride, imagining a ‘Naya Bharat.’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort with the help of Flying Officer Rashika Sharma. Two Mi-17 helicopters from the Indian Air Force flew above the Red Fort, showering flower petals and one helicopter showed the tricolour, and the other carried banners of Operation Sindoor, making the celebration colorful and showing India’s military strength.
Before reaching Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi visited Rajghat in New Delhi to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. The visit showed how much the country respects its freedom struggle and linked India’s fight for independence to its present journey of growth and unity.
At Red Fort, PM Modi hoisted the national flag with Flying Officer Rashika Sharma’s support. The two Mi-17 helicopters, piloted by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal, showered petals on the crowd. The Operation Sindoor banners showed India’s military pride and modern technology, making the celebration bright and full of meaning.
The Prime Minister was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police, led by Wing Commander Arun Nagar. A total of 128 personnel took part, showing perfect discipline, teamwork, and respect for the country’s traditions.
This year’s celebrations carried the theme ‘Naya Bharat,’ symbolizing India’s vision of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and about 2,500 cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers formed the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo at Gyanpath. Around 5,000 guests attended, including Special Olympics 2025 athletes, Khelo India Para Games gold medalists, top-performing farmers, youth, entrepreneurs, and volunteers recognized under schemes like PM-VIKAS, PM-DAKSH, SHREYAS, VISVAS, and PM Van Dhan Yojana.

For the first time, pan-India band performances were held on Independence Day evening. Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles performed at over 140 locations, promoting patriotic fervour and celebrating Operation Sindoor.
On PM Modi’s call, the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan inspired citizens nationwide to display the national flag at their homes. The Tiranga Yatra and people’s participation showed unity, pride, and a shared responsibility to build a strong India.
