IMD Forecasts Southwest Monsoon in Kerala, Heavy Rainfall Predicted

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the anticipated progression of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala on Saturday, accompanied by heavy rainfall predictions from May 25 to 29. Favorable conditions are predicted for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon over additional parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, and some regions of Northeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

A yellow alert has been issued for the next 24 hours, signaling the likelihood of heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, and Alappuzha districts. Moreover, specific districts have been issued heavy rainfall alerts on different dates, with Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta on May 26, Alappuzha and Ernakulam on May 27, and Thrissur joining them on May 28. On May 29, the alert extends to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam.

Additionally, the IMD has issued wind warnings for fishermen along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts. Fishermen are urged to avoid venturing into the South Kerala coast on May 25, and those already at sea are advised to return to shore. In Lakshadweep, wind warnings have been issued for May 25, 28, and 29.

These advisories come as part of the IMD’s efforts to alert and ensure the safety of residents and fishermen amidst the anticipated onset of the Southwest Monsoon and the associated weather conditions in Kerala and Lakshadweep.
