As monsoon activity increases nationwide, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued new rainfall warnings for a number of states. Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted to persist for the next five days, and Kerala in particular is still under orange and yellow advisories through August 8.

Meanwhile, Delhi and parts of north India are likely to experience cloudy skies and light showers in the coming days. The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall for the national capital, especially on August 5, amid already waterlogged areas from a heavy downpour on Sunday.

Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across North India

The Western Himalayan region and the surrounding plains are expected to see extensive rainfall and thunderstorm activity, according to the IMD.

Here’s a region-wise update:

Jammu & Kashmir: Isolated heavy rainfall is expected from August 4 to 6.

Himachal Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely on August 4 and 5, continuing through August 6.

Uttarakhand: Daily heavy rainfall has been forecast between August 4 and 9, with intense downpours on August 4 and 5.

Punjab: Isolated heavy rain is likely on August 5 and 9.

Haryana: Heavy rain is possible on August 4 and 5, with very heavy rainfall likely on August 5.

East Rajasthan: The region may witness isolated heavy showers on August 8 and 9.

In Delhi, the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted a partly cloudy sky with a chance of very light to light rain or thundershowers through August 9. After Sunday’s brief spell of heavy rain, several areas such as Deoli, Panchkuian Road, Moti Bagh, ITO, Mukherjee Nagar, and Pul Prahladpur experienced waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Kerala Remains on High Alert

In the southern region, Kerala continues to face a high alert for rainfall, with multiple districts bracing for heavy downpours. The IMD has flagged the state for orange and yellow alerts lasting till August 8, with the possibility of both heavy and very heavy rainfall affecting normal life.
The weather authority stated that multiple rain-bearing systems, including low-pressure areas and strong monsoon winds, are influencing these conditions.

Caution Advised Amid Flood and Landslide Risks

State disaster management officials have warned citizens in vulnerable areas as the IMD continues to issue warnings. Waterlogging, landslides, and flash floods are still very likely, particularly in coastal and mountainous regions.

Authorities in the affected states have stepped up their efforts to mitigate the effects of possible weather-related disruptions. Commuters are also urged to check local advisories and weather updates prior to departing.
