Jaipur police arrested ‘IIT Baba’ Abhay Singh on Monday from a hotel for having ganja after they received a tip that he could attempt suicide, which he had allegedly posted on social media. But after interrogating him, the police found that the amount of ganja was minor and released him on bail.

“We got this news that he (Baba Abhay Singh aka IIT Baba) was in a hotel, and he may take his life. When we arrived there, he claimed that I smoke ‘ganja’, I still have it in my hand, and I may have uttered something when I was unconscious. Holding ‘ganja’ is an offense under the NDPS Act. So, we arrested him. Because of the small amount, we questioned him and then released him on a bail bond. His devotees told the police that he was going to take his life as he had posted something on social media websites. If required, he will be summoned again for the interrogation,” said Rajendra Godara, Station House Officer (SHO) of Shiprapath Police Station.

Abhay Singh, who caused a stir during the Maha Kumbh, also briefly spoke to the media while getting arrested, stating, “I have nothing to say about it as of now. It’s my birthday, and I want to be happy today.”

Abhay Singh had previously reported that he was attacked during a news debate on a private channel in Noida. In his police complaint, he stated that a group of ‘saffron-clad people’ went into the newsroom, behaved rudely with him, and attacked him with sticks. Singh later led a protest outside the Sector 126 police outpost but called it off after police urging.

Sector 126 SHO Bhupendra Singh verified that Singh chose not to lodge a complaint. Footage on social media captures the scuffle during the debate, with a group of sadhus walking into the studio and a heated argument breaking out. The cause of the fight is still unclear.
