Huge amount of explosives, ammunitions recovered in Mizoram

A joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Police resulted in the recovery and confiscation of a large quantity of explosives and ammunition in advance of the Mizoram assembly elections. The coordinated operation was carried out in Mizoram’s Siaha district by the paramilitary force and the state police.

Acting on specific intelligence concerning the transit of military supplies into Myanmar across the Lungbun border, the Assam Rifles and the district police administration began a joint operation in and around the area on Sunday evening, and the team found two unknown men.

According to officials, those persons were carrying some items and when ordered to stop, the two men abandoned their bags and fled towards Myanmar, crossing the Kolodyne River.

“When the joint team approached and checked the bags they left behind, they found some items but the two fellows could not be apprehended,” Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, IGP (HQ) of Mizoram said. The team recovered 100 numbers of Geletine, 100 numbers of Detonator, 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 metres of Wire (codex), and 10 numbers of Battery cells.

The recovered items were generated by the joint team at the Siaha police station. A case has been filed against the unknown accused at the Siaha police station Acts for further investigation.

The Election Commission declared the dates for assembly elections in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana on Monday. Mizoram will vote on November 7, Chhattisgarh will vote on November 7 and 17, Madhya Pradesh will vote on November 17, Rajasthan will vote on November 23, and Telangana will vote on November 30.

In a 40-seat Assembly of Mizoram, in 2018, Mizo National Front managed to win 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent. Congress secured 5 seats and BJP won a single seat. Zoramthanga is the current chief minister of the state.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3 in all these 5 states.
