Three people have been arrested in connection with the daylight robbery of ₹7.11 crore from an ATM cash refill van, police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said on Saturday.
A police constable from Govindarajanagar police station, the ex-employee of CMS Info System Limited (CMS), and the incharge of the cash refill vehicle were among those arrested, Singh said.
Investigation Points to Possible Insider Link
The big break in the investigations came on Friday when police found evidence pointing to an inside operation in the heist. The constable and a former employee of CMS were taken in for questioning. CMS is the company that operates the cash refill vans.
The former employee had recently left CMS and was said to be on close terms with the accused constable, according to investigators.
Mobile Tower Data Provides Crucial Clues
Mobile tower data analysis in the vicinity of the crime scene established exchange of calls between the constable and the ex-CMS employee during the robbery. Investigations of their call details revealed frequent calls between them during the days preceding the incident, leading to increased suspicion about the possibility of collusion.
Getaway Vehicle Leads to Additional Evidence
Another important lead came in the form of finding the getaway vehicle that was abandoned near Tirupati in Chittoor district. Police are continuing to investigate the case to identify any other possible accomplices and to recover the remaining stolen cash.
