House Collpase: Cong Comes Down Heavily On City Govt For Negligence

The Delhi unit of Congress has criticized the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government over its failure to clear the debris from the Karol Bagh building collapse site. Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav expressed shock at the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) negligence, stating that debris remained uncleared while more people could still be trapped beneath the rubble of the collapsed building in Bapa Nagar, Ambedkar Gali, Karol Bagh, which resulted in five deaths and 13 injuries.

Speaking to The Daily Guardian, Yadav called for an investigation to determine accountability and prevent future tragedies. He also urged the Delhi government to provide adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and injured, although he acknowledged that no amount could truly compensate for the loss of loved ones.
On Thursday, September 19, Yadav visited the collapse site to offer his condolences to the grieving families. He pointed out that the five deaths in Karol Bagh added to the more than 16 building collapse fatalities this monsoon. Despite a series of such incidents, including building collapses, fires, and deaths due to waterlogging, the AAP Government and the MCD had failed to take meaningful action.

Yadav further attributed the ongoing accidents to corruption within the MCD and the Delhi government, highlighting that construction and maintenance guidelines were routinely violated. He emphasized that numerous buildings across Delhi are in a hazardous condition due to illegal and faulty construction, calling on the government to take immediate steps to prevent further tragedies.
