Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh for a Liquor Smuggler Leads to Unexpected Arrest

The 22-year-old liquor smuggler, Pravesh Yadav, was caught by the police in Prayagraj after managing to evade arrest for months. Yadav, who had been on the run since July 2023, was caught when he tried to participate in the ritual bathing in Maha Kumbh that is believed to wash away all sins but, apparently, destiny had other plans for him.

Attempt to Escape Arrest by Liquor Smuggler

Yadav, a resident of Alwar district in Rajasthan, was said to be a transporter of spurious liquor. His vehicle was intercepted by the police on National Highway 19 during a routine vehicle check on July 29, 2023. Adulterated liquor was seized by the police, but Yadav escaped the scene. The police arrested his two accomplices, Pradeep Yadav and Raj Domoliya, from the Unj police station area in Bhadohi.

The three were natives of the Alwar district. They had been doing this for some time, and Pravesh Yadav managed to avoid police for nearly one-and-a-half years even after his arrest. A case was lodged against him and his associates under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) like 419, 420, 468 and 471.

Besides, the case was lodged against him in the Excise Act and the Gangster Act.

Police Surveillance Leads to Arrest

Superintendent of Police of Bhadohi, Abhimanyu Manglik, said that Yadav had been absconding since the vehicle check but was caught due to strong police surveillance. The accused was arrested in the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj, where he had come to perform the holy dip, hoping to wash away his sins.
