Hindus Protest For Worship Freedom: Questioning Democracy In Telangana Temple Vandalization

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a state-wide protest on October 19, 2024, accusing the Telangana government of failing to protect Hindu temples from recent attacks. This protest comes on the heels of two notable incidents of vandalism that have sparked outrage among community members and political leaders.

Recent Incidents of Vandalism

Earlier this month, Hyderabad witnessed two significant cases of vandalism targeting Hindu idols. The first incident involved the destruction of a Durga idol at a Puja pandal in the Nampally Exhibition Grounds, located within the jurisdiction of Hyderabad’s Begum Bazar police station. Authorities reported that a homeless individual was responsible for the damage, claiming it was unintentional as he searched for food. However, BJP leaders are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

The second incident occurred at the Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad’s Mondal division, prompting widespread protests. Several BJP leaders, including Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, visited the site to condemn the vandalism. Local residents apprehended one individual involved in this act, later identified as Salman Salim Thakur, who had come to the city for a month-long personality development workshop.

Calls for Government Accountability

In light of these events, the VHP and BJP have intensified their calls for accountability and stricter measures to ensure the safety of religious sites. BJP leaders have demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the vandalism cases, highlighting their concerns over rising tensions and the safety of Hindus in the state.

As protests escalate, the situation in Telangana remains volatile, with community leaders urging for immediate action from the state government to restore peace and protect religious sentiments.
