Mandya Set for Digital Governance Boost as Modi Government Clears New Aadhaar Facility
New Delhi/Mandya: In a major boost to citizen-centric digital governance in Karnataka, the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Mandya district, fulfilling a long-pending public demand raised by Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy. The approval follows Kumaraswamy’s detailed representation to Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking urgent intervention to strengthen Aadhaar enrolment and update services in the district.
Highlighting the difficulties faced by residents, H.D. Kumaraswamy had pointed out that Mandya had witnessed a steady decline in fully functional Aadhaar facilities equipped with ECMP (Enrolment Client Multi-Platform) kits, resulting in overcrowding, long waiting periods and inconvenience, particularly for students, senior citizens, farmers and beneficiaries of various Central welfare schemes. In his letter, he emphasised that Aadhaar services are indispensable for scholarships, examinations, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes and several other government services, making the establishment of a permanent Aadhaar facility both necessary and timely.
Responding to the representation, Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Shri Kumaraswamy that the matter had been examined by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). He conveyed that while Aadhaar enrolment and update services are presently available through 110 operational enrolment kits across Mandya district, UIDAI has now decided to establish an Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Mandya with four enrolment kits, significantly enhancing the district’s Aadhaar service infrastructure.
The new facility is expected to transform access to Aadhaar services for thousands of residents across Mandya and neighbouring rural areas by enabling faster enrolment, biometric updates and demographic corrections. It will substantially reduce travel time and waiting periods for citizens while ensuring seamless access to Aadhaar-linked government services.
The approval reflects the Modi Government’s unwavering commitment to Digital India and inclusive governance, ensuring that modern digital infrastructure reaches every corner of the country. It also underscores the effective coordination among Union Ministries in addressing public concerns through timely administrative action.
Welcoming the decision, H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and continued focus on citizen-centric governance. He also thanked Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for his prompt consideration of the representation and for facilitating this important initiative for the people of Mandya.
The approval marks another significant development for Mandya, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to improving public service delivery and the genuine needs of the people are addressed through responsive governance.
