The Ministry of Education released the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 on Monday, ranking the top educational institutes across the country on the basis of teaching, learning, research, etc. However, despite claims of improving the quality of education in the state, Haryana universities failed to make a mark in the rankings. This has become a matter of concern, especially since Haryana’s universities have undergone several changes in curriculum over the past few years. According to these rankings, state universities seem to be witnessing a decline across indicators such as research and teaching.
The NIRF 2023 has revealed Haryana’s poor showing among the top institutes in the country, with only two making it onto the list. The Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak and Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) Hisar succeeded in securing a position among the top 100 universities.
Parameters that the institutes are ranked on include teaching and learning resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach, inclusivity and perception.
As per data from the NIRF over the last few years, it seems evident that Haryana has been witnessing some decline as compared to the rest of the country. In 2019, CCSHAU Hisar ranked 89 among the top 100 institutes overall. In the same year, three other universities made the top 100. Out of these, Guru Jambheshwar University (GJU), Hisar was ranked 63, followed by MDU, Rohtak and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KUK) at 90 and 98 respectively.
