Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate Bhupinder Singh Hooda has successfully retained his seat in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi Assembly constituency in the Haryana Assembly elections. Following his victory, Hooda expressed confidence that Congress is on track to secure a majority in the state.
“According to the input I have with me, we are touching the majority. Congress is getting the majority. There are several seats that we have won, but the same is yet to be updated,” Hooda stated to reporters as the Election Commission continued to release results from the counting of votes, which began at 8 AM.
Hooda defeated his closest rival, BJP candidate Manju, by a significant margin of 70,626 votes, as reported by the Election Commission. Other candidates in the race included Pravin Guskhani from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sushila Devi from the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), and Krishan from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
As of 2:45 PM, Election Commission data indicated that Congress had won 9 seats and was leading in 27 others, while the BJP had won 4 seats and was leading in 44. The Indian National Lok Dal was leading in two seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in one, and Independents in three of the total 90 Assembly seats in the state.
