Harsimrat Kaur Badal Calls Delhi’s Rain-Induced Traffic Chaos ‘Nightmare’

Amid the heavy rains impacting the national capital, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal expressed her frustration with the situation, calling the downpours in Delhi a ‘nightmare.’ She shared a video of the traffic congestion on her official X account, noting her dismay at seeing an ambulance caught in the traffic jam during an emergency. “Felt sad and disheartened to see an ambulance stuck in Delhi’s traffic. Every second counts in an emergency. One rain and Delhi is a nightmare!!’ read the post.
“I left from parliament at 6:30 PM, it’s been 6 hours and I’m still stuck on the roads!! Traffic is at a standstill, people’s cars have run out of fuel and little kids are stranded in cars!! It is indeed a nightmare !!So much for the much touted and publicised Delhi model !!” read the post further.

Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has advised all officers to stay vigilant due to the continuing heavy rainfall in the national capital.
“Have cautioned all officers to remain alert in light of the ongoing heavy downpour in Delhi. Apart from ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general, they are advised to specifically address issues at sites prone to waterlogging, including coaching centres,” Saxena posted on X.

Heavy rain hit various parts of Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening, offering some relief from the humidity but causing widespread traffic congestion across the city. The poor weather led to 10 flight diversions between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm, according to airport sources. Air India also issued a warning that flights to and from Delhi might be disrupted due to the adverse conditions. Additionally, a house in Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area collapsed amid the downpour.

Intense waterlogging was observed near AIIMS following continuous rainfall in the national capital. Traffic congestion was also reported in the ITO area due to the downpour. The IMD has warned that the rain could lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility, traffic disruptions, and localised waterlogging in low-lying areas. It has predicted intermittent showers are expected in Delhi until August 5.
