Surat (Gujarat) [India], July 10 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi, in the presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti CR Paatil, on Thursday reviewed the flood situation with officials and legislators in Surat.

After the meeting, Gujarat Deputy CM praised Surat residents and relief agencies for teamwork during floods.

Speaking to reporters, Sanghavi said, “Many areas in Surat had to face a flood situation due to heavy rains on July 7. Looking at the past records of rain in this city, this was the heaviest rainfall Surat witnessed. The people of Surat worked as a team to come out of this difficult situation. They helped the government agencies wherever they could reach. It was a challenging time. There were 7-8 areas where there was serious waterlogging. NDRF, SDRF, and other agencies worked hard to evacuate and relocate people. The CM today held a review meeting in Surat. The CM has announced Rs 500 crore towards a project to stop water from the creek entering the city.”

Valsad BJP MP Dhaval Patel stated that the Gujarat Chief Minister has chaired a high-level review meeting with local leaders and administrators to address severe property damage and implement flood-prevention measures across waterlogged regions of South Gujarat.

“Due to heavy rains in the last few days, waterlogging was witnessed in low-lying areas of Surat, Navsari and Valsad. This resulted in damage to several properties. In view of this, our CM visited areas of south Gujarat. He held a review meeting of the situation in Navsari and Valsad. All MLAs, Mayors, and District Administrations attended the meeting. The state government is ready to take all measures ot prevent this from happening again,” Dhaval Patel told reporters.

On Wednesday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams carried out rescue operations and successfully evacuated 85 individuals, including 36 males, 27 females, and 22 children, at the Sriram Nagar Society, Surat, Gujarat.
