Late evening on Thursday, people of Kakopathar in the Tinsukia district of Assam were terrorized by intermittent gunshots and deafening grenade blasts. The intense exchange of fire was reportedly continued for almost an hour near the Kakopathar Army Camp, and there was widespread fear and panic among local residents.

As per early reports, unidentified assailants threw grenades at the camp of the Indian Army’s 19 Grenadiers unit in the middle of the night. Security sources confirmed that three Army personnel were hurt in the explosion.

Minutes after the attack, authorities found a truck that was believed to be driven by the attackers. The truck was abandoned in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tengapani region, which borders Tinsukia.

No militant organization has taken responsibility for the attack so far. Still, initial investigations point the finger towards ULFA (Independent) an organization that is infamous for such attacks in the Upper Assam area.
