The Indian scenario has witnessed the past three months almost being dominated by these two massive events: Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Massive attention is drawn by both events with swells of devotees and fans swelling from November. Recently, an interesting analysis was shared by the India In Pixels account on X, comparing Google searches for ‘Coldplay’ and ‘Maha Kumbh’ across Indian states, revealing some very interesting patterns.

The post, which had a map with states marked in blue for higher Coldplay searches and red for Maha Kumbh, asked, “Did your state Google more ‘Coldplay’ or ‘Maha Kumbh’ in the last 90 days?” The map, based on Google Trends data from November onward, ranked states on a scale from -100 (Coldplay) to 100 (Maha Kumbh).

Bihar was the state with the highest searches for Maha Kumbh, while Mizoram was the top searcher for Coldplay. Northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand had more searches on Maha Kumbh, whereas northeast states especially Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Meghalaya had maximum searches on Coldplay. Southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry also opted for Coldplay whereas in Goa, the search results were split with similar searches for Coldplay and Maha Kumbh.

Interesting fact: though multiple concerts of Coldplay took place in Gujarat and Maharashtra, still, searches of both states have tilted towards the Maha Kumbh.

The post had garnered more than 600,000 views on social media sites with people sharing their speculations behind the differences. One suggested that if November to February of 2025 were being compared, there would be an even better picture drawn from the differences. In fact, another user mentioned how Maha Kumbh devotees might have not been an internet generation crowd like the fans of Coldplay. The Mahamaham Kumbh in Tamil Nadu could well be the reason for the region being largely disinterested in Maha Kumbh, as the state has the Mahamaham Kumbh in every 12 years in Kumbakonam.
