Congress leader Shashi Tharoor comments on Sergio Gor’s appointment as US Ambassador to India, calling it a step toward stable diplomacy (ANI)
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has reacted sharply to the newly appointed Sergio Gor as the United States of America Ambassador to India. There has been a lot spoken after both sides of the diplomatic aisle looked at it as potential stabilizing steps in an otherwise edgy relationship between India and the US.
Tharoor mentioned on Twitter a post sharing venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani, which, indeed, cleared the importance of the role. According to Motwani, her knowledge of Gor's proximity to US President Donald Trump could provide India with a direct line back channel, granting candid appraisal of bilateral priorities to enable New Delhi to navigate complex trade and foreign policy.

"Interesting," he said about that observation but added a note of cautious optimism. It is reassuring to have an ambassador after months of uncertainty, he said. He also added that diplomatic consistency could be further strengthened once formally confirmed in the position of Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia.
Gor was born in Tashkent, he is presently 38 years old, and he has for a long time been regarded as one of Trump's most trusted associates. He is currently the head of the White House Presidential Personnel Office; hence he is firmly within the internal web of trust directly with the President. His new role makes him the official American envoy to India, but it also designates him as the Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Affairs, thus extending his scope of international diplomacy.
Trump announced the appointment online, calling Gor a great friend who has been there for him through thick and thin. So, what this appointment signifies for New Delhi is that Washington would continue to see India as the heart of its regional strategy despite the ensuring trade disputes.

This is an announcement made at a tumultuous period in the fortunes of bilateral ties. As a matter of fact, India–US relations remain tense on account of the imposition by Washington of steep tariffs on Indian goods, a measure which, according to Trump, was a move to retaliate against India's purchase of oil from Russia. There have been duties ranging up to 50 percent, causing much concern in New Delhi.

Nevertheless, Gor's elevation may well close the distance between the two countries. For Indian diplomats, this opportunity is to reach out to reset dialogues and reaffirm the significance of this partnership between the two largest democracies of the world.
As per Tharoor, much remains to be seen as regards whether Gor's mission will at long last simplify matters more than it complicates what in any case is a very tangled relationship. For now, his position offers cautious hope for recalibration in one of today's most consequential global partnerships.
