Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who had been missing since the tragic Goa nightclub fire, have been moved to Bangkok’s Immigration Division Centre. Sources say this transfer marks a key step toward sending them back to India.
Officials familiar with the case confirmed that the shift is part of the last phase of repatriation. Diplomatic and legal coordination between India and Thailand has been underway to bring the brothers back to face proceedings.
Since the Luthras’ passports were suspended by Indian authorities, the next major requirement is an Emergency Travel Certificate issued by the Indian Embassy in Bangkok. A source said, "The embassy is currently working on issuing the emergency travel certificate for Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra." The source added that "once the documentation is complete, their transfer back to India will be finalised."
Officials indicated that the paperwork is moving quickly and the brothers may be brought back as early as today (Friday) or by Monday. Their exact return depends on how soon the documentation is completed.
The move to the Immigration Division Centre is the final logistical preparation before the Luthras are escorted onto a flight to India. The specific legal steps they will face after landing are still being discussed.
This progress follows a major breakthrough on Thursday when Thai police detained the brothers at the request of Indian agencies. The two are co-owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in Goa, where a devastating fire killed 25 people last week.
Once their passports were suspended, the brothers became persona non grata in Thailand, enabling local police to take them into custody. Authorities expect their deportation to happen soon.
Investigators say the brothers had fled to Phuket and were staying at a resort. Thai police located them and later released handcuffed photographs showing them in custody.
Goa Police, with help from the Ministry of External Affairs and the CBI, requested Interpol’s assistance. Interpol then issued a Blue Corner Notice to trace and monitor the Luthra brothers’ movements.
