Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address both Houses of Parliament and the country. He asked the PM to speak about pressing matters such as the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by the Election Commission.
Demand for Discussion Dates
While speaking to ANI, Gogoi urged the central government to share the dates for discussions on these significant topics. He alleged that the Election Commission’s actions in Bihar appeared politically motivated. “Election Commission is doing the work of (vote-bandi) banning votes in Bihar. It can only be done with the consent of PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah. We want PM Modi to participate in the discussions of SIR, and he should inform us when the discussions on Operation Sindoor and SIR will take place,” Gogoi stated.
Parliament Disrupted Amid Opposition Protests
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were both adjourned until 2 pm soon after the day’s sessions began. Opposition MPs continued their protests, raising slogans and demanding debates on several issues, including the SIR exercise in Bihar. The Rajya Sabha session ended quickly after resuming, as opposition members created a loud uproar demanding a discussion on the voter roll revision.
Lok Sabha Proceeds Briefly, Introduces Sports Bill
In contrast, the Lok Sabha functioned for a few minutes amid disruptions. During this time, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025.
Earlier Sessions Also Disrupted
Earlier in the day, both Houses of Parliament faced similar interruptions and were adjourned shortly after convening. Several opposition leaders had already submitted adjournment notices to initiate discussions on matters of public interest.
Opposition Wants PM’s Statement on Operation Sindoor
Opposition parties also demanded that Prime Minister Modi clarify US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims about initiating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. They are pressing for the Prime Minister to respond directly to Parliament and the nation.
