G7 leaders to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is hosting this year’s G7 Summit, will welcome world leaders to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (Genbaku Dome), which depicts the aftermath of the world’s first atomic bomb being dropped on the city on August 6, 1945.

The leaders of the Group of Seven countries, as well as the leaders of the other eight invited countries, including India, are expected to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The leaders began arriving here on Thursday for the crucial G7 summit.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart for a three-nation tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia. He will attend the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, from the 19th to the 21st of May, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Hiroshima was the world’s first military target for a nuclear weapon. This occurred during World War II in the Pacific theater on August 6, 1945, when the United States Army Air Forces dropped the atomic bomb “Little Boy” on the city. The majority of Hiroshima was destroyed, and between 90,000 and 166,000 people died as a result of the blast, radiation exposure, and its effects by the end of the year. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a bombing memorial.
