One year after Operation Sindoor, India’s top military leadership described the mission as a defining moment in the country’s evolving counter-terror and military strategy. On the first anniversary of the operation, senior officers of the Indian Armed Forces, during a joint press conference, reflected on the operation’s strategic impact, operational coordination and the lessons learnt following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

Addressing the media, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Air Marshal Avadhesh Bharti and Vice Admiral AN Pramod underlined how Operation Sindoor marked a decisive shift in India’s response to cross-border terrorism. The operation, carried out jointly by the Army, Air Force and Navy, was presented as a demonstration of India’s ability to conduct integrated, high-precision military action while maintaining strategic deterrence across land, air and sea domains.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai called Operation Sindoor a turning point in India’s counter-terror approach, saying the mission reflected a new strategic mindset across the Line of Control and the international boundary. He stressed that India had sent a strong message that terror infrastructure and its backers would no longer be allowed safe havens. The Army officer also highlighted the role of indigenous defence manufacturing in the success of the mission, noting that more than 65 percent of India’s defence equipment is now produced domestically. Indigenous missile systems, surveillance platforms and air defence assets reportedly played a crucial role during the operation.

Air Marshal Avadhesh Bharti strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and said the incident demanded a firm and calibrated response. He noted that while Operation Sindoor is currently paused, India’s resolve against terrorism remains unchanged. According to him, the operation reflected India’s capability to respond with precision and coordination whenever national security is threatened. He also highlighted the importance of joint operational planning and real-time intelligence sharing among the three services during the mission.

Vice Admiral AN Pramod detailed the Indian Navy’s contribution to the operation, emphasising how maritime dominance added strategic pressure during the campaign. He revealed that the Navy deployed carrier battle groups and submarines while maintaining control over key maritime routes in the region. According to him, the naval deployment not only strengthened India’s operational posture but also sent a clear signal about the country’s preparedness and reach. He said Operation Sindoor showcased the Indian Navy’s strength, readiness and ability to operate effectively on the global stage.

Military officials at the briefing also pointed to the broader significance of the operation beyond immediate tactical gains. Analysts believe Operation Sindoor established a new deterrence framework in which India demonstrated both the political will and military capability to respond decisively against terror networks and their support systems.

The anniversary event reinforced the image of a more assertive and technologically capable Indian military. With increasing indigenous defence production, closer tri-services coordination and enhanced strategic preparedness, Operation Sindoor is now being viewed not just as a successful military mission, but as a milestone in India’s evolving national security doctrine.
