Veteran tribal leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren has passed away. His son and current Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, confirmed the news.

Shibu Soren, also known as “Guruji,” played a central role in the Jharkhand movement. He was one of the founding leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

A Legacy of Tribal Leadership

Over the decades, Shibu Soren led several protests for tribal rights and statehood. He also served three terms as Chief Minister and held cabinet positions in the central government. His political career influenced many leaders in eastern India.

Hemant Soren expressed his deep grief. He said, “My father was not just a leader but a guiding force for Jharkhand’s identity and tribal welfare.”

Leaders from across the country offered condolences. Many remembered Soren’s long struggle for tribal upliftment and social justice. The Jharkhand government is expected to declare official mourning. The last rites will be announced soon. Thousands of people, including JMM supporters, are likely to attend his funeral. As a mark of respect, government offices lowered flags to half-mast. The state has also begun preparations for memorial events.

Shibu Soren’s passing marks the end of a powerful chapter in Jharkhand’s political history. His contributions to the state and its people will be remembered for generations.
