Popular folk singer Maithili Thakur is expected to run in the Bihar election from the Alinagar seat in the Darbhanga constituency. She had a meeting with BJP election in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai ahead of the date announcement for the Bihar poll, giving rise to speculations about whether the party will nominate her in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Posting the photos of the meeting on his X handle on Sunday, Tawde added that the singer and her family had parted from Bihar in 1995 during the time Lalu Prasad Yadav was in power. He further added that the same daughter, now, desires to come back, observing the development of Bihar.

Maithili Thakur Returns to Bihar After Decades

"The family who had left Bihar when Lalu Raj took power in Bihar in the year 1995, the daughter of that family, the great singer Maithili Thakur ji, wishes to return to Bihar, observing the speed of changing Bihar. Today, Union Minister of State for Home @nityanandraibjp ji and I encouraged her that for Biharis and for the development of Bihar, her contribution is awaited by the common man of Bihar and that she fulfill their expectations. Best wishes to Bihar's daughter Maithili Thakur ji!" he tweeted.

Sharing the post on her account, Thakur posted, "The people who dream big for Bihar, every conversation with them reminds me of the power of vision and service. Honored and grateful from the heart."

Who is Mithili Thakur?

Trained in Indian folk and classical music, Thakur and her two brothers learned music from their grandfather and father. She was awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2021 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi for her work in the folk music of Bihar.
