Folding Hands, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Urges DGP to Speed Up Police Recruitment

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attended a function where 1,239 newly-appointed police officers were given their appointment letters. During his speech, Kumar turned to Bihar DGP Alok Raj and, with folded hands, requested him to expedite recruitment. “Jaldi kar na dijiyega? (Will you get this done soon?)” he asked, catching the senior officer by surprise.

Alok Raj, visibly taken aback, saluted the Chief Minister, but Kumar pressed further, “Tell me, will you get this done soon?” Raj then walked to the rostrum, stating, “Bihar Police is committed to implementing the directions of the honourable Chief Minister. We will ensure quick recruitment and robust training.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid growing opposition criticism of Bihar’s law and order situation. With state Assembly elections scheduled for next year, the Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JDU alliance government faces attacks over crime rates.

Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, from the RJD, recently criticised Kumar, saying, “There is no district where murder, loot, kidnapping, or rape isn’t happening. But there is no action. FIRs are lodged, but there is zero investigation, and people don’t get justice. Nitish Kumar cannot run Bihar anymore.”
