From 100 to 75 km/h: Noida Traffic Police Enforce Seasonal Speed Reduction (Image: File)
To improve road safety during the winter fog season, traffic authorities have lowered speed limits on two major expressways in the National Capital Region. From December 15, the maximum speed for light vehicles on both the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway will be lowered to 75 kilometres per hour, down from the usual 100 km/h.
The seasonal adjustment applies specifically to light passenger vehicles. The limits for heavier vehicles remain unchanged but are already lower than the standard limit.
Officials stated this is a standard annual precaution enforced for approximately two months, typically from mid-December to mid-February, to address hazardous winter driving conditions.
Noida Traffic Police say winter weather is the main concern. Fog and mist reduce visibility, and slippery roads make high speeds risky by increasing stopping distance.
Dr. Pravin Ranjan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida Traffic), confirmed that a meeting with the Noida Authority would be held to formalize the measure. He added that the revised speed limits would also be updated on digital platforms like Google Maps, an initiative started during Road Safety Month in November.

Public Advisory: It is recommended that drivers prepare their cars for foggy conditions by turning on defoggers, replacing outdated wipers, and checking the fog lights.
The enforcement underscores a critical need for improved safety. According to Noida traffic police data:
