First Incident on Renovated Habba Kadal Bridge Sparks Demand for Preventive Measures

Kashmir: In light of the rising trend in suicide incidents, local residents are urging authorities to install fencing on bridges across Srinagar to prevent further tragedies.

Following the tragic event yesterday, where a teenage girl (name withheld) jumped from the newly renovated Habba Kadal Bridge into the river Jhelum, the call for action has intensified. Despite immediate rescue efforts, the girl remains unaccounted for.

The community of Habba Kadal and neighboring areas have been vocal about the need for preventive measures. “We have repeatedly requested the authorities to erect proper fencing on the bridges,” said Omar, a concerned local resident. “Just this morning, another woman attempted to jump from the Habba Kadal Bridge but was fortunately stopped by bystanders. The bridge, despite its aesthetic appeal, has already witnessed a tragic incident.”

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been actively involved in the search operation. “Our team is scouring the water with boats, doing everything possible to locate the girl,” an SDRF official reported.

Residents are adamant that immediate action is essential to prevent further loss of life. They insist that authorities prioritize the installation of safety barriers on all major bridges in Srinagar to ensure the safety of its citizens.
