According to the officials, early Saturday morning witnessed a fire that broke out in the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The authorities responded promptly as 13 fire tenders responded to the accident, and quickly controlled the inferno.
As per the press release by National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited overseeing the project, the fire reportedly started in the roof shuttering section of the construction site. Initial investigations indicate that welding sparks from temporary shuttering work could have caused the fire. “No injuries or casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but prima facie, it appears that welding sparks from temporary shuttering work may have triggered it,” the statement said. NHSRCL officials are monitoring the situation closely.
Sabarmati station will form part of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor and is all set to become India’s first-ever bullet train terminal. Being built with the financial and technical support from Japan, this design of the station features the finest modern architecture in the world. The entire project, covering the stations along both Gujarat and Maharashtra, has the objective of providing high-speed connectivity between the two states.
