The BJP has launched a strong counterattack on opposition protests over the ongoing voter roll revision in Bihar. On August 11, 2025, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused Congress and other opposition parties of deliberately trying to create instability in the country. He dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “vote theft” allegation as a lie.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Dharmendra Pradhan said the opposition was following a “well thought out strategy” aimed at creating anarchy. He claimed that the Congress had no substantive issues left to raise and had resorted to baseless allegations to target the BJP and the Election Commission.

Pradhan’s Sharp Criticism of Rahul Gandhi
Dharmendra Pradhan directly targeted Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He accused Gandhi of echoing the rhetoric of “big forces” that, according to him, want to weaken and destroy Indian democracy.
He alleged that the opposition’s current focus on Bihar’s voter roll revision was a calculated attempt to question the credibility of the Election Commission. He also charged that their real intent was to add “intruders” to the country’s voter lists.

Dharmendra Pradhan challenged the opposition to raise the matter in Parliament rather than inciting fear among citizens. “You cannot adversely impact PM Modi’s leadership, people’s decision, and the country’s constitutional system by creating fear,” he asserted.
Bihar Voter List Controversy & Background
The dispute intensified when opposition parties accused the BJP and the Election Commission of irregularities in Bihar’s voter roll revision process. They claimed that similar irregularities had occurred in previous elections, and these were a pattern to manipulate results.
Rahul Gandhi’s charges of ‘vote chori’ has further escalated the political clash, drawing nationwide attention. BJP insists that the process is transparent, legal, and carried out under strict guidelines. Though the Election Commission has not yet provided any detailed public response.

Battle Over Electoral Trust
This dispute goes beyond a single state’s voter list, instead, it reflects a wider political dispute over the credibility of India’s electoral system. BJP claims and presents the protests as ‘fear politics. ’ However, the opposition sees the voter list modification as an opportunity to question institutional neutrality.
With major elections ahead, both sides risk deepening public mistrust in electoral processes and the fight over voter credibility is set to become a defining political flashpoint.
