Actor Manoj Bajpayee came out in public dissociation from a campaign video that was in circulation prior to the 2025 Bihar election, which seemed to indicate his support for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Bajpayee came out with a clarification declaring the video patched up and that he had not sanctioned or recorded anything in favor of any political party.

His words were circulated by the media following the first clip going viral. Reports at the local and national levels also verified that the clip had been doctored and credited the circulation to campaign activity coordinated with the election season. Bajpayee’s reaction stressed that his voice and image had been abused, as he called upon political players to desist from circulating altered material.

What did Manoj Bajpayee say?
Bajpayee posted on X, “I would like to go on record and say that I have no link or affiliation with any political party. The video that is being shared is a doctored, stitched-together edit of an ad that I worked on for @PrimeVideoIN. I earnestly request everyone who is sharing it to desist from posting such manipulated content and ask people not to engage with or promote such fake content.” The video is deleted now.

Although this clip was not generated by AI, the Bajpayee incident is but one of a few recent instances in which manipulated video and AI-facilitated manipulations were employed within election scenarios or used to shape public opinion. Note that this is becoming an increasingly common practice because generating-video tools are now readily available, and editing software can generate realistic-looking clips that can be easily manufactured and replicated in short order.
Needless to say, this complicates it for viewers to separate real from fabricated footage. Disinformation experts note that doctored celebrity likenesses can be potent since they provide credibility for some audiences. Even if the clip becomes unmasked as false, initial exposure can alter narrative momentum. One can only hope that a permanent and successful solution is discovered to tackle the problem.
