External Affairs Ministry Confirms Operational Status of Afghan Embassy in New Delhi

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the resumption of activities at the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi, clarifying that the embassy, along with the consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad, are operational. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi emphasized this during a weekly press briefing, highlighting that despite the functioning of these entities, India’s stance on the condition of these representations remains consistent.

Bagchi emphasized that India’s position on the identities represented by these diplomatic entities remains unchanged. He reiterated that Afghan diplomats at these locations will continue providing services to Afghan nationals residing in India.

Last month, Afghanistan announced its intention to open an embassy in India, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ties with India. The embassy will be managed by distinguished Afghan diplomats who will work to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries while also providing services to the Afghan community in India.

Previously, on November 25, the Afghan Embassy stated that there were no Afghan diplomats representing the former Republic in India as of November 23. The Ministry of External Affairs, on the other hand, made no comment on the reported closure of the Afghanistan Embassy in India.

India has refrained from recognizing the Taliban government, which assumed power in Afghanistan in August 2021. India evacuated its diplomatic staff from Kabul two years ago, and it does not maintain a diplomatic presence in the country.
