In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman, a student pursuing Biotechnology in Bengaluru was sexually assaulted by her employer’s friend at their cafe in Madiwala on May 12th.
Worsening the situation, when the survivor along with her two male friends approached the Madiwala police, a sub-inspector ranking officer questioned the victim if she was a virgin and told her that medical examination will not prove of a sexual assault if she was not a virgin.
Meantime, the accused Hainas who had local clout has asked a local goon to come and threaten the survivor and the victim to withdraw the complaint. It was a harrowing time for the survivor and her friends with cops not doing anything but supporting the accused and his friends.
Fearing that they would be assaulted, they accepted for a compromise at the police station and the cops took written letters from both the parties and left them.
On 14th night, when the victim and her two friends were staying at a hotel in Madiwala, the accused Hainas along with his goon and associates barged into their room and assaulted them. They were threatened to leave Bengaluru and go back to their hometown in Kerala.
The next day, the survivor and her friends approached a women’s organisation who further put them through to a senior police officer who directed the Madiwala police to take up a complaint and register a case.
Accused Hainas has been booked for rape and assault while the goon identified as Suresh and nine others have been booked for assault using dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation. The police have formed teams to nab the accused.
In her complaint to the police, survivor stated that she is a student who also works part-time at a cafe named Momo Bristo. On the intervening night of May 11th and 12th, the survivor, her employer Amal and two of his friends including Hainas were partying at the cafe. Around 12.30 when Amal and one of his friend went out to buy food, Hainas was alone with the survivor.
Hainas took advantage of the situation and forced himself on the survivor after stripping her naked. Shocked, the survivor was crying when her employer Amal and his friend came back. Hainas then started to threaten all the three with dire consequences if they tell this to anyone or approach the police. Though at that time they told Hainas that they will not complain, they decided to approach the police the next day and file a complaint.
