Ex Wrestling Federation Chief Seeks Early Hearing in Delhi HC to dismiss sexual harassment proceedings

Former Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has approached the Delhi High Court, requesting an early hearing on his plea to dismiss sexual harassment proceedings initiated by female wrestlers. The court is set to hear his application on October 18, 2024.The Delhi High Court recently issued notices to the state and police regarding Singh’s plea, with the next scheduled hearing set for January 13, 2025. Singh, a former MP, is actively contesting the allegations against him.

Singh’s Justification for Urgent Hearing

In his latest application, Singh noted that the prosecution evidence in the trial court is progressing weekly, and he believes that evidence may be completed by January. He emphasized the urgency of addressing his plea for dismissal, citing the need for a timely resolution given the trial’s current pace.

The fresh application was filed on behalf of Singh by Advocate Rajiv Mohan, with assistance from Advocates Rehan Khan and Rishabh Bhati. Singh’s petition seeks to challenge the ongoing trial court proceedings stemming from the FIR filed by several women wrestlers, aiming to quash the FIR, chargesheet, and the trial court’s order related to the framing of charges against him.

Previously, the trial court determined there was sufficient evidence to proceed with charges of sexual harassment against Singh. The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet based on complaints from the wrestlers, which Singh is contesting in court.
