Encounter: Naxalite Killed by Security Forces in Sukma, Chhattisgarh

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran G Chavan confirmed that following the cessation of the gunfight, the body of a Naxalite and a weapon were discovered at the scene. He further stated that a search operation was ongoing in the surrounding area. This development marks the latest encounter in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalite insurgency in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which encompasses seven districts, including Sukma.

According to police reports, this recent confrontation brings the total number of Naxalites killed this year to 81 in various encounters across the Bastar region. The consistent efforts of security forces in confronting and neutralizing Naxalite threats underscore the persistent challenges posed by insurgency in this area. Notably, on April 16th, security forces engaged and eliminated 29 Naxalites in an encounter in the Kanker district of the region, further emphasizing the intensity of the ongoing operations against Naxalite groups.

The recovery of a Naxalite’s body and weaponry following the engagement underscores the risks and realities faced by security personnel in their efforts to maintain law and order in the Bastar region.
