Election Commission of India appoints three special observers for Andhra Pradesh

The Election Commission of India has appointed three special observers for Andhra Pradesh in preparation for the concurrent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state. Ram Mohan Mishra, a retired IAS officer, has been named the Special General Observer, while Deepak Mishra, a retired IPS officer, will serve as the Special Police Observer. Neena Nigam, a retired IRS officer, has been appointed as the Special Expenditure Observer.

In a recent notification, the Election Commission announced the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, scheduled for April 26. The nomination process for this phase will begin on Thursday. This phase will cover a total of 88 parliamentary constituencies across 12 States/Union Territories, including one part of Manipur (Outer Manipur).

The notification clarified that the election for the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency was included in the gazette notification issued for phase 1. In Outer Manipur, 15 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) will go to polls on April 19 (Phase 1), while 13 ACs will vote on April 26 (Phase 2).

The States/UTs involved in Phase 2 are Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, in addition to one part PC in Manipur (Outer Manipur).

Andhra Pradesh is set to vote on May 13, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
