“Double-engine govt working at great speed,” PM Modi in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth over Rs 17,500 crore in Assam on Saturday, highlighting the progress brought about by the “double-engine government” in the state.

Addressing a rally in Jorhat, PM Modi praised the speed at which the government is working for Assam’s development. He said, “Assam has shown unprecedented pace in the infrastructure, health, and energy sectors.”

Expressing gratitude to the crowd, PM Modi said, “I bow down in gratitude before you all for coming in such large numbers to bless us…This love is a treasure for me.”

He also mentioned the government’s efforts to ease the lives of women in Assam, citing the reduction of Rs 100 in the price of LPG announced on Women’s Day.

Taking a dig at the Congress, PM Modi alleged that the party had failed to meet the expectations of the people of Assam. He highlighted the government’s achievement of providing 5.5 lakh permanent houses to families in Assam, contrasting it with the past when people yearned for one house each.

PM Modi encouraged people to visit Kaziranga National Park, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting wildlife. He called attention to the negligence of previous governments towards the rhinos of Assam and praised the current government’s efforts in protecting them.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi unveiled a statue of Lachit Borphukan, the famous general of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam, known for his victory against the Mughal army in the Battle of Saraighat.

PM Modi is on a three-day visit to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, which began on March 8. His visit to Assam is seen as crucial for the BJP’s campaign and preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, expected to be held in April and May.
