The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has warned the public about a fake donation campaign claiming to raise funds for Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is on death row in Yemen. The ministry clarified that there is no government-approved fund or donation drive for her case.
“We have seen claims being made on social media seeking monetary contributions into a GoI designated bank account in the Nimisha Priya case. This is a fake claim,” said MEA.
“The misleading post originated from a verified X account of evangelist KA Paul. The post urged people to “Donate directly to Save Nimisha to the Government of India account designated. We need 8.3 crore rupees.”

In July, KA Paul had made a video appeal to the Houthi administration in Yemen, featuring Nimisha Priya’s 13-year-old daughter Mishel and her husband Thomas.
Nimisha Priya’s Situation in Yemen
Nimisha Priya, a 38-year-old nurse from Kerala, has been on death row in Yemen since 2020. She was accused of murdering a Yemeni citizen in July 2017. Her execution was originally scheduled for July 16, but Indian officials intervened, and it was postponed.

Currently, Nimisha is imprisoned in Sana’a, the Yemeni capital, which is under the control of the Iran-backed Houthis.
Indian Government’s Efforts
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that India is actively involved in assisting Nimisha Priya. “We continue to closely follow the matter and render all possible assistance. We are also in touch with some friendly governments on the issue,” he said during a weekly media briefing.
The MEA has urged citizens to avoid falling for social media claims and warned against transferring money to unverified sources.
Why This Matters
False fundraising efforts have the potential to deceive well-meaning citizens and take advantage of delicate circumstances. No one will be tricked into sending money to unapproved accounts thanks to the government’s warning.
India is still working diplomatically to ensure Nimisha Priya’s safety in the interim. To look into every option, officials are in communication with friendly governments and allies.
The MEA’s statement makes it clear that any claims of collecting funds for Nimisha Priya through social media are false. Citizens are advised to rely only on official announcements from the government regarding her case.
