Kanimozhi, a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, mocked the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” constitutional amendment bill on Wednesday by saying that women prefer to be respected to being worshipped or saluted.
“This bill is called the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill. Stop saluting us. We do not want to be saluted, we do not want to be put on a pedestal. We don’t want to be worshipped, we don’t want to be called as mothers, We don’t want to be called your sister or wife, we want to be respected as equals. Let us get down from the pedestal and walk as equals,” said Kanimozhi in Lok Sabha.
Kanimozhi claimed that BJP MPs were heckling her as she began to speak about the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023 in the lower house. We have a right to this country, she continued. We are the owners of this nation. This Parliament is our property. And it is legitimate for us to be here. The DMK MP went on to say that “politics of tokenism must evolve into politics of ideas,” quoting former Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
