Anger within the Delhi Congress regarding fielding candidates for Lok Sabha elections has surfaced. Firstly, there were reports of differences between Sandip Dixit and Kanhaiya Kumar regarding fielding the later from North-East Delhi against BJP candidate Manoj Tiwari, a two-time incumbent MP from the constituency. On Monday, when a press conference to introduce the three candidates was going on, supporters of EX Minister Rajkumar Chouhan were protesting in front of Rajiv Bhawan, DPCC office, against the candidature of Udit Raj, who switched to Congress in 2019. Raj has been selected as a candidate for Northwest Delhi.
On one hand, Delhi Congress is already late in the frey where both BJP and AAP have started their campaigns. These differences within the party regarding the candidate selection seem to derail their aim of breaking the BJP’s streak of winning all seven seats from the last three elections.
Speaking at the press conference, J.P. Aggarwal, candidate from Chandani Chwok, said, “I have been given the opportunity 10th time by the party. Chandni Chowk is the heart of Delhi, and I have personal relations with every voter. While the BJP MP has never developed the habit of going there regularly, There are many problems there, for which no solution has ever been found. I will fight for all the problems.”While Kanhaiya Kumar, the candidate from North-East Delhi, said, “Just tell what Manoj Tiwari, the MP from Northeast Delhi, has done in 10 years? We will go among the people of this area and solve their problems.” Udit Raj, a candidate from North-West Delhi, said, “I have been a Member of Parliament from this constituency before. Some work was done, but despite passing many proposals, a lot of work couldn’t be completed. The people of this area are suffering the punishment of being rural residents. Even after being removed from the MP position, I remained active in the area.
Now, I will work on the vision of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.”
