Dense fog in Delhi: 26 Delhi-bound trains running late

The cold wave continues to blanket the northern parts of the nation. The national capital is surrounded by dense fog which has led to low visibility causing trouble for the travelers. At least 26 Delhi-bound trains are delayed due to this on Thursday, as reported by the Indian Railways.

According to Indian Railways, trains arriving late in Delhi on January 4, 2024, include Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Exp, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani, Jammu Tawi-New Delhi Rajdhani, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Rajdhani, Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani, Bhubneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani, Ranch-New Delhi Rajdhani, Bhubneshwar-New Delhi Duronto, Rewa-Anand Vihar Exp, Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyat Exp, Rajendranagar-New Delhi, Banaras-New Delhi, Ambedkarnagar-Katra Exp, Pratapgar-Delhi, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar, Chennai-New Delhi GT, Bhopal-Nizamudin, Kurukshetra-Khajuraho, Jammutawi-New Delhi, Katihar-Amritsar Express, Jammutawi-Ajmer, Ferozpur-Seoni, Manikpur-Nizamuddin, Prayagran-Anand Vihar, Manikpur-Nizamuddin, Kanpur-New Delhi Shramshakti, Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Exp, Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Exp, Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Exp, Rajendranagar-New Delhi, and Banaras-New Delhi Exp.

Dense fog and low visibility have enveloped the northern and northeastern parts of the country amid harsh winter conditions. On Thursday, a thin sheet of ice covered the surface of Dal Lake in Srinagar as temperatures dropped further. Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur experienced dense fog, while Prayagraj had fog despite receiving light rain on Thursday morning. Cold-wave conditions persisted in Lucknow.

In Jaipur, Rajasthan, visibility was significantly reduced due to thick fog in the Bhankrota area. The maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to be around 15 degrees, and the fog conditions are anticipated to decrease in the next two days, according to the IMD. However, the cold wave is expected to persist for the next 2-3 days in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

The IMD reported visibility levels at various locations in Uttar Pradesh at 0530 hours IST, with Bareilly at 25 meters, Lucknow at 25 meters, Bahraich at 25 meters, Prayagraj at 50 meters, Varanasi at 50 meters, Gorakhpur at 200 meters, and Sultanpur at 200 meters.

At 0830 hours IST, the recorded visibility in meters was: Jammu & Kashmir – Jammu at 25; Punjab – Patiala at 25, Amritsar at 50; Haryana-Chandigarh – Chandigarh & Ambala at 25 each, Karnal at 50; Delhi – Ayanagar at 50; Uttarakhand – Pant Nagar and Nainital at 50 each.

In Uttar Pradesh, recorded visibility was: Gorakhpur at 0, Jhansi and Bahraich at 25 each; Bareilly, Lucknow, and Varanasi at 50 each, Sultanpur at 200. In Rajasthan, visibility was reduced: Bikaner at 25; Kota, Jaipur, and Ajmer at 50 each, Jaisalmer at 200. In Bihar, Purnea recorded visibility at 25; Madhya Pradesh – Sagar at 50, Gwalior and Khajuraho at 200 each.

In Odisha, Rourkela recorded visibility at 200; in Jharkhand, Daltonganj at 200; in Tripura, Agartala at 50; and in Manipur, Imphal at 200.

Due to low visibility amid fog, several flight operations were also delayed at Delhi Airport.
