The city police have arrested 18 individuals linked to the notorious ‘Titli Kabutar’ gambling racket, which has been a persistent issue for both law enforcement and the public. Substantial evidence, including roulette wheels, has been confiscated from the suspects.
The central district police recently detained 13 gamblers. According to an officer, “Acting on a tip, a team led by Inspector Rohit Kumar conducted a raid near Padam Singh Road and apprehended the accused.” The arrested individuals, aged between 22 and 52, come from Delhi, UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and MP.
In another development, the south district police captured three gamblers—Vinod Kumar, Ram Babu Pal, and Raja Ram Shah. They were caught with Rs 19,500 in stake money, 15 decks of playing cards, and other gambling items. Additionally, the north district police arrested Sadiq, a key figure in one of the ‘Titli Kabutar’ gangs, who was found with Rs 1,750 in stake money, a diary, nine satta slips, and other materials. The Shahdara police also apprehended another gang leader.
The gambling game, similar to roulette, involves a chart featuring images of a butterfly, bumblebee, lamp, sun, and pigeon. Players place bets on their preferred image, and if the drawn chit matches their choice, they win ten times their wager, as explained by an officer.
Police have recovered over Rs 1.2 lakh in cash, ten mobile phones, ten bundles of betting slips, two calculators, a multi-color banner with butterflies and pigeons, and a roulette wheel from the site. The arrested individuals include Depender, Tarun, Yogender, Suhel, Avinash, Manoj, Miraz Alam, Suraj, Vishal, Ashutosh Dubey, Jagdish, Pooran Chand, and Sunil.
