Delhi Weather: Dense Fog, Light Rain Expected; 18 Trains Delayed

Delhi is experiencing dense fog and a cold wave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting a minimum temperature of 7°C on Thursday. The dense fog prompted Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to implement low-visibility procedures, though flights continued on schedule.

Weather Conditions and Air Quality

The IMD forecasted continued dense fog, especially in the late night and early morning hours of December 26 and 28, along with light rain in the evening or night. The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category, with a reading of 372 at 8 am on Thursday, up from 360 on Wednesday. Specific areas, like Anand Vihar and Ashok Vihar, recorded AQI levels above 360, indicating hazardous air quality.

Airport Advisory

Despite low visibility procedures at Delhi Airport, all flight operations are proceeding as usual. Passengers are advised to check with airlines for updated flight details. Aircraft not equipped for CAT III landings may face disruptions in such conditions.

Train Delays

At least 18 trains arriving in Delhi from across the country were delayed due to the dense fog. Some affected services include the Avadh Assam Express, Unchahar Express, Vikramshila Express, and Duronto Express.

Air Quality Measures

On December 24, the Central Pollution Control Board lifted the ‘Severe’ Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi and the NCR. However, actions under Stages I, II, and III remain in effect to prevent further deterioration of air quality.
