Delhi Water Crisis Deepens: BJP Protests Across City, Jal Board Office Vandalized

Amid escalating tensions over dwindling water supply in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged widespread protests across 14 locations on Sunday, targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government. The protests, characterized by the symbolic breaking of earthen pots to highlight water scarcity, involved participation from BJP MPs, MLAs, councillors, and state chief Virendra Sachdeva.

Accusations flew as BJP leaders blamed the AAP for mismanagement and corruption, alleging rampant water theft and wastage under their governance. Virendra Sachdeva criticized the AAP administration, asserting that Delhi’s water woes were exacerbated by negligence and financial mismanagement at the Delhi Jal Board.

BJP MPs like Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj led demonstrations, highlighting issues such as damaged pipelines in Dwarka and alleged mismanagement at the Delhi Jal Board office. They accused the AAP of fabricating a water crisis and failing to maintain crucial infrastructure, despite Delhi having sufficient water reserves.

In response to the protests, Delhi ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi accused BJP leaders of vandalizing the Chhatarpur office of the Delhi Jal Board. They condemned the act as a deliberate attempt to undermine the government’s efforts and called for legal action against those responsible.

The BJP, however, has not officially responded to these allegations yet, amidst growing tensions and public outcry over the worsening water crisis in the national capital.

The situation remains tense as political blame-game intensifies while Delhiites continue to grapple with reduced water supply, marking one of the severest shortages in recent times.
