Heavy rain caused waterlogging in Delhi and NCR, disrupting traffic. IMD warns of ongoing thunderstorms. Air quality is moderate. Himachal Pradesh faces alerts for heavy rainfall and flood risks.
On the morning of Saturday, August 8, heavy rain and thunderstorms caused waterlogging in many areas of Delhi, as well as in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). This led to traffic slowdowns in the affected zones.
According to ANI, places like Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar saw heavy rainfall, while light showers along Mathura Road also caused water to accumulate. Near Gate No. 7 at Bharat Mandapam, waterlogging was reported after the early morning rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast 'thunderstorms with rain' for Saturday. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of around 33°C and a low near 25°C.

“Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied with moderate thunderstorm and lightning (30-40 km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at entire Delhi and NCR,” the IMD said in its latest update.
On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2°C, slightly above normal and a minimum of 26.8°C, which was just below the usual seasonal average.
No rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours before Saturday, with humidity ranging from 69% in the morning to 56% in the evening. The IMD also indicated that rain and thunderstorm activity will continue over the next few days.
Delhi Police advised the travelers to avoid Zakhira Railway Underpass on Road No. 40 due to waterlogging. The traffic is being redirected near Inderlok Chowk. Vehicles coming from Shastri Nagar/KD Chowk ae route towards Chaudhary Nahar Singh Marg and the opposite direction as well.
Motorists have been urged to use alternate routes to ensure smoother travel.
The Central Pollution Control (CPCB) said that Delhi's air quality index was 'moderate' at 116 on Friday. An AQI between 101-200 means that the quality of air is in moderate category but can cause difficulty to sensitive groups.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for August 11 and 12 for three districts in Himachal Pradesh, with a yellow alert for the rest of the state, warning of ongoing rainfall.
Monsoon rains have already caused severe damage in Himachal. Since June 20, 202 deaths have been reported from monsoon-related incidents, 108 caused by rain, floods, and landslides, and 94 due to road accidents, according to official figures.
