September 2025 is turning into a mix of planned school breaks and unexpected disruptions. While festival holidays are already fixed, heavy rains and the rising Yamuna river have created uncertainty about school schedules. The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has advised parents and students to follow official notices closely.

Rain Impact in NCR
-
Gurugram: Schools have moved to online classes after over 100 mm of rainfall caused severe waterlogging.
-
Delhi: While schools are still open, the rising Yamuna has forced evacuations in low-lying areas. Authorities warn that closures may be announced if the situation worsens.
Parents are urged to track DoE circulars and school notices for last-minute changes.

Festival Holidays in September
Alongside weather-related closures, schools will observe these official breaks:
-
Milad-un-Nabi / Id-e-Milad – September 5 (public holiday, all schools closed).
-
Onam / Thiru Onam – September 5 (restricted holiday, may vary).
-
Dussehra (Maha Saptami & Maha Ashtami) – September 29–30 (restricted holidays).
-
Autumn Break – September 29 to October 1 (as per DoE calendar, coinciding with Durga Puja and Dussehra).
The festival holidays are confirmed, but rain-related closures will depend on local conditions. Parents are advised to keep a close watch on updates from the Directorate of Education and individual school notices, as schedules may change at short notice. Staying connected through official WhatsApp groups or online school portals will help avoid last-minute confusion. Families should also be ready for the possibility of classes shifting online if flooding worsens.
For now, schools in Delhi continue to operate as usual. However, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram have already declared closures or moved to online learning due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging. Festival holidays, such as Milad-un-Nabi on September 5 and the Autumn Break from September 29 to October 1, remain unaffected and will be observed as planned.
